The Centurions are officially on a roll.

The Saugus High School Centurions faced off against the Chatsworth Chancellors this past Thursday in a non-league game on their home turf.

The Centurions dominated on both sides of the ball Thursday afternoon, shutting out their opponent in a 57-0 blowout win. This marks the team’s third straight victory after a rocky start to the season. With momentum building, Saugus is quickly turning into a team to watch in the Foothill League.

Saugus came out strong in the first quarter, putting up 20 unanswered points. Senior quarterback Savanna Smith led the charge, making key plays that kept the Chancellors’ defense guessing.

In the second quarter, Chatsworth’s defense pressed the Centurions’ offense, causing them to throw deep. Smith was able to step up to the challenge and complete passes to senior wide receiver Kona Ramsbottom, who was an unstoppable force all game.

“It feels amazing, like it’s just like a relief when you get it and everyone starts cheering,” said Kona Ramsbottom.

After half, the Chancellors came out ready to make big plays. But, on the other side of the ball, the Centurions’ defense came up big, never letting Chatsworth get into rhythm. Gianna Gerson had a pick 6 in the third quarter, putting Saugus up 51-0.

The shutout was a full-team effort and a clear sign that Saugus is finding its identity.

“Since this is our first year together, we wanted to start off with a great bond while learning the sport and try our best every game, no matter what the score is,” said Savanna Smith, a senior on the Saugus Flag Football team.

Moving forward, the Centurions have a specific goal: making the playoffs.
