There are many reasons adults decide to return to college, including the challenge of a college education, career or lifestyle changes, and the pursuit of personal fulfillment.

The adult reentry alliance provides the same services available to every coc student, but in addition, offers specialized opportunities to help reentry students thrive in college.

Here is the story of one alliance client, Colleen Kubes.

I decided to return to school shortly after COVID hit, and I came back because I had stayed home with my son for eight years, and I was a little bored, so i took non-credit classes, which, with the encouragement of my non-credit professor turned into taking credit classes,” says colleen Kubes, COC student.

Colleen was looking for a change in life.

“And I did not want to go back to work in a law office. I had done that for 25 years, and I wanted to work at being of service to others instead of in a financial gain position,” says Kubes.

The alliance is the only program at coc that addresses the needs and concerns of adult students transitioning back to school or starting for the first time. Colleen’s story is an example of personal commitment and dedication.

For adults considering a return to college, colleen has some advice.

“My advice would be come onto campus and check it out. Look at all the flyers, look at all the different departments. If you’re curious about any of them go in and ask because they will be glad to receive you and answer any questions you have,” says Kubes.

Her resourcefulness, along with the support and guidance of the adult reentry alliance, will help her achieve her personal and academic goals.
