Santa Clarita family’s “Not So Haunted” Halloween attraction supports their son

Now Playing Santa Clarita family’s “Not So Haunted” Halloween attraction supports their son

Behind one Santa Clarita family’s Halloween attraction is a story that goes beyond the scares. At the heart of it all is Damien, a 7-year-old boy whose story continues to inspire his family.

His mother, Brittany Markham, created the “Not So Haunted” experience as a place where young families can celebrate Halloween without scary or gory scenes.

The event also helps raise support for the Markham family. Brittany says donations from visitors and people who give through the family’s website make a meaningful difference.

Damien has a neurodegenerative condition. Brittany says the diagnosis initially felt like life had been put on pause, and compares its effects to Alzheimer’s in adults. She says she wants people to see Damien as a child with a personality of his own, beyond his diagnosis.

The family welcomes support through its Halloween events and direct donations on its website.
