Matix Frithsmith has played several roles for Hart High School’s football team this season. Already a running back and receiver for the Hawks, he took over at quarterback when starter Cameron Ketner went down.
The move put more responsibility on Frithsmith, but he had experience to draw on. He played quarterback as a sophomore, starting against Castaic, and said knowing the entire playbook helped him step into the role again.
Frithsmith points to his ability to break tackles and stay on his feet through contact as his biggest strength. His play has also drawn attention from opponents, including Saugus head coach Jason Bornn, who described him as a generational player from the Santa Clarita Valley.
Hart head coach Jake Goossen-Brown credits Frithsmith’s development to the work he puts in beyond games. Since his sophomore year, Frithsmith has trained on Sundays and lifted weights at 5 a.m. during baseball season. He also spends hours studying film during the summer with teammate Josh Rogozik.
Goossen-Brown said that commitment has helped turn Frithsmith’s talent into elite play. He believes Frithsmith still has room to grow and expects him to compete at the next level.
Reporter Noah Waron-Rosen shares how Frithsmith’s preparation and versatility have helped him fill a key role for the Hawks.
