A beautiful and summery Friday night at Cougar Stadium featured the Burroughs High School Bears and the Hart High School Hawks. This will be Burroughs’ first contest of the season, while Hart looks to bounce back after a defeat versus Birmingham.

While the field conditions were dry and the weather was hot, both schools were ready to play some football.

From the get-go, Hart put on a show, a handoff over to Josh Rogozik, and he sneaks in for a touchdown. Then, with around six minutes to play in the first, Burroughs’ quarterback, Brandon Chapparo’s pass is deflected off the receiver into the hands of Hart’s Michael Toner, which gives Hart possession back.

At the 8-yard line, Hart quarterback Jacob Paisano completes a pass to sophomore wide receiver Silas Tucker, and it’s 14-0 Hart.

The first-quarter dominance from Hart continues as a recovered fumble leads to yet another touchdown. Paisano goes back to the same option for 14 yards.

Nearing halftime, the Hawks ain’t done yet. At the Bears’ 6-yard line, Paisano throws it to Rogoznik as he picks up another touchdown. Less than a minute to go, Paisano goes deep for a 48-yard bomb to Rogozik again. The junior wide receiver pots six more as it’s 35-0 Hart at the half.

Halftime was the only break Burroughs’ High was going to get. First and goal for Hart in the third, and Matix Frithsmith joins the party as he rolls on into the endzone. Then, to begin the fourth, Hart was on Burroughs’ doorstep yet again.

Paisano throws a bullet to Frithsmith for his second touchdown of the evening.

And that’ll do it. Hawks fly as Hart High School dominates Burroughs 49-0.

Brendan Chapparo threw three interceptions in the massive loss, while Paisano threw for five touchdowns in the victory.

“Today, they looked great,” said Paisano. “I mean, last week, I think it was just first game jitters for everybody. Younger guys getting their first playing time, so I think everybody’s, everybody got the jitters out the way, and I think we should keep it rolling now.”

The Hawks’ Head Coach, Jake Goosen-Brown, was also pleased with the team’s improvement from last week.

“You know, every day we go out there, we’re just trying to get at least 1% better,” said Goosen-Brown. “I try to do my best to make sure I put my players in positions to be successful, and if we lose, then that’s my fault, so I’m trying to do that for them as best we can.”

Hart High School looks to carry the momentum into next week as they face off against the Paraclete Spirits on September 5th.
