Earlier this month, the Cube Ice and Entertainment Center, in partnership with the Los Angeles Kings, hosted a free day for girls to try hockey.

This event was designed to introduce the sport of hockey to girls ages five to nine.

The afternoon was filled with various activities for the little girls.

They got to decorate mini hockey sticks and crowns. Played some rounds of ball hockey and even learned how to skate

Alongside many locals in attendance, such as the Santa Clara to Flyers hockey club, even LA’s very own Chelsea Goldberg, a professional women’s hockey player, joined in to keep the games fun and competitive.

“I really want to give back to hockey,…It’s given me so much growing up,” said Goldberg.

“I grew up playing with my twin brother and the boys,” said Goldberg.

“To see almost 100 girls come out and support the game…it’s incredible,” said Goldberg.

On Girls Can Try Hockey for Free Day, almost 100 young girls signed up to play. But to Chelsea, this means more than just the sport.

“I love to see the growth from where it started when I was growing up playing until now, but more importantly, to expose the game to people who may have never been exposed before,” said Goldberg.

“That’s why we’re here, and we love to be a part of the growth of the game in Southern California,” said Goldberg.
