Santa Clarita’s new rink pavilion brings roller skating back

Now Playing Santa Clarita’s new rink pavilion brings roller skating back

After more than 40 years without a roller skating rink, Santa Clarita residents can skate at the new Rink Sports Pavilion in Canyon Country.

The project began with a different plan. Project manager Araz Valijan said the city initially considered an outdoor skating area with a shade structure and music. The design evolved into an indoor facility as the city considered community needs.

The multipurpose facility in Canyon Country also has space for basketball, pickleball and volleyball.

At more than 25,000 square feet, the pavilion can host roller skating, basketball, pickleball and volleyball. Valijan said the space was designed to adapt to different uses.

City resident Allison Walton said she was glad to have a rink nearby so she could bring her children on a weeknight. She was also curious how the facility would manage switching between activities such as basketball and pickleball.
