The Santa Clarita Artists Association hosts about 10 themed art receptions each year. This October’s theme, “Tales and Twilight,” celebrated the mystery and spooky spirit of fall.
For artists, showing their work offers a chance to see how viewers connect with it. Gloria Cassidy says a piece feels complete when it’s seen and shared.
“It was a big step to have things shown on the wall,” Cassidy says. “It’s kind of like the piece is not really complete until it’s viewed. I feel it’s a connection between me and the viewer, and that feels really good.”
More than 20 local artists take part in the association’s exhibits. President Tobi Beck says she enjoys helping artists build confidence and share their work.
“To watch someone grow from ‘I can’t, I could never’ to actually doing it and showing and selling their work is really incredible,” Beck says.
The association also helps artists find community through activities such as monthly group painting outings. Members paint together at locations including Vasquez Rocks and Main Street.
Cassidy says art can create meaningful connections with viewers, too. She recalls a woman who bought a print of her work for her son after learning that the piece reflected Cassidy’s healing from trauma.
The association welcomes artists and volunteers. More information is available at SantaClaritaArtistsAssociation.com.
