Congressman George Whitesides has announced $850,000 in federal funding for College of the Canyons’ Student Basic Needs Center.
The center helps students across the district access food, meal vouchers and housing support. Staff also assist students with signing up for CalFresh and Medi-Cal.
Katherine Burke Robinson, a COC student and mother, has used the center. Sarah Cox, who runs the center, works closely with students to understand the support they need.
Whitesides says the new funding will allow the center to expand and serve more students. The center currently offers grab-and-go snacks and canned goods in a limited space.
The center is open on weekdays. Students can register online before stopping by.
