The Los Angeles Country Fire Department hosted a fire demonstration to teach Santa Clarita residents the importance of being prepared when a fire does happen.

Firefighters demonstrated air operations, and urban search and rescue.

“It’s an amazing day,” Sheila Kelliher, PIO Captain of LACoFD said. “Because this is a day where we open up our doors and all of our equipment to show the public what LA County Fire does.”

“I think people really should understand what a massive team it is and teamwork is paramount to the success of all of our rescues,” Kelliher said.

Teamwork and communication, key skills that are crucial for firefighters as they work to save lives in the community they serve this time it’s a demonstration, next time, it could be the real thing.

“I almost cried watching the helicopter land,” Gitzel Hernandez, a vendor, said. “Like saying like wow this is amazing how you know there’s people out there that truly care for us and what the community, and the fire department and the sheriffs department do for us”.

Firefighters also saw the chance to bring the community together.

“It was great meeting people, getting to see them not in emergency-type situations,” Johnny Matamoros LAFD firefighter specialist said.

And those in the community appreciated the opportunity.
