It was a night under the stars as the COC hosted its annual Star Party. An event held at the Canyon Country campus for students and community members interested in stem-related activities.

The event was hosted at the Takeda Science & Lecture Center. It featured
information booths hosting different activities for attendees, telescopes, and
indoor planetarium.

“Events like this are designed to help….bring science to communities where it’s been less popular, less visible, less known,” said David Vakil, Dean of Mathematics and Engineering at COC.

Those attending got to hear about the history of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, or JPL, from a guest astronomer.

“Space exploration is not the machines; it’s the people who do it, and this is where it all starts,” said JPL researcher Varoujan Gorjian.

The Astronomy & Physics Club also got to showcase and demonstrate their own professional research.

“the stuff we’re doing actually has an impact on the scientific community,” said Aram Aprahamian, a student representing the Astronomy & Physics Club.

“We do research; we work with NASA. We learn to work in a team, take something from scratch and build it all the way up.”
