It’s not a typical project that the city has announced.

But it was something city officials anticipated to share. The Rink, now being added to the sports complex behind the gym, was an idea that sparked the city’s interest after residents said there was a lack of outdoor amenities during the pandemic, especially for skating.

“Here in Central Park, they would use basketball courts to do skate days and skate in the afternoon, and so that’s really where the idea of not only this be a rink but all these other amenities that people can use,” said Georgia Rios, City of Santa Clarita Communication Specialist.

Construction is on track to finish by 2026, but for now, eager residents pass the time at the other nearby amenities, especially the skatepark.

For many in Santa Clarita, skating is their way of getting active and being outside; what would they have to say about a new roller skating rink in their hometown?

That sounds great, yeah, I love sports; it’s an excellent way to get exercise and have fun, so I love rollerblading,” said Autumn Carothers, a Santa Clarita resident.

As of last week, the city wants to expand design plans for the Rink, and while it will raise costs for the city, it will provide better modifications for the finished product.
