The Santa Clarita Public Library and the Castaic Animal Care Center collaborated to create an adoption event for dogs in need of homes.
This started with a previous communications intern, Michael Marino, who was able to work closely with the Castaic Animal Care Center. Eventually, the public library joined in, and the idea came about.
“We had the opportunity to do a Storytime with one of our local books, Sammy Stories, call it Puppy Love, which is all about pet adoption,” said Marino.
“We had one of our librarians come up with the idea to work together with the Castaic Animal Care Center to try and do a collaborative event,” said Merino.
Combining story time for children and the presence of dogs in need of forever homes, more attention was brought to the Animal Care Center and the importance of adoption, even though it is constantly mentioned to adopt from shelters.
Designer dog breeds overshadow rescues. Kelsey Tarleton, the Animal Care Center’s Volunteer Manager, explains the issues with designer dog breeders.
“Shelters are severely overcrowded all over the country,” said Tarleton.
“We need a lot of help; we might not always know their history, you might need to give them a little extra time and training when you take them home, but these are still going to be here and be your best friend,” said Tarleton.
Events like these can help these shelter dogs get adopted and even save their lives.
